🤩 We got to @tarnanthi Art Fair on Saturday and caught up with some of our fabric Aboriginal textile (and women owned) art centres - @nagulajarndu and @babbarradesigns … they had great displays and wonderful textiles and clothing.
I was too busy with four grandkids having their first Indigenous Art Fair experience to take photos. But this is my haul from Babbarra in Maningrida - some will be for bags, some for customers. The first photo is Lino prints - love them SO much.

We were involved in a little pop up on Saturday at the (former) @songlines_arts in Darwin. We were joined by @blackcatcouturent and @merrepenarts - Marcia’s wearing @injalakarts Walabi (Butterfly Fishnets) design and Mietta is wearing a gorgeous outfit featuring Kieren Karritpul’s Magpie Geese design - the artist is standing next to her!! The fabric was printed in Melbourne by Print Ink. @kierenmctaggart

With a POP-UP in Darwin coming up this Saturday, @merrepenarts team got back into the print workshop. It’s been a couple of weeks with sorry business and school holidays. Nola’s got a turtle hunting injury but insisted on soldiering on. Janine jumped onto the heat gun to help dry the fabric.
The print? It’s @azzamc15 ‘s Crocodile Skin design on linen (of course!!).
See you soon Darwin at @songlines_arts 10-3 Saturday 11th October.

Bradley Bianamu is an artist member of @merrepenarts merrepenarts - his hand printed Wildflowers fabric design was made into Nancy bags by Kravan House social enterprise. An old lady just came to the art centre shopping for a Nancy bag and chose this one. She declined a photo but Bradley was nearby in the print workshop so we grabbed him instead. Can’t wait to see his future art works.

This lovely lady found a Delia bag made from a very sweet @babbarradesigns Lino print. Still have a couple of these in stock (somewhere!). The fabric came from my stash from a trip around 20 years ago to do the first Babbarra Women’s Centre business plan. Was such a joy working with the ladies and then manager Jen. It was when they were moving towards focusing on their fabric social enterprise and before they had a yardage table for screenprinting. Look at them now!!

If I don’t post this now I never will. It’s hilarious (😬) watching it back. Filmed it a few weeks ago to explain why Merrepen Arts keeps cropping up on my @flyingfoxfabrics posts. There is more footage and details (I could probably talk underwater with a mouthful of marbles) but will start with this one. I’m doing a gig with @merrepenarts and using my phone to film and edit reels (it’s better than the work one), then sharing. Absolutely love working for the Nauiyu team. Still doing Flying Fox Fabrics - getting things made and getting them online. More explanatory and product videos coming. (I know you can’t wait! 🤪)

Some VIPs dropped in to give the Merrepen Arts printing crew a hand last week. They caught us printing Waterlilies by Kieren Karritpul in artist selected colours. Kieren turned it into a four screen print and Kenneth matched his energy. Spot the slight stuff-up if you can… 😜 (it wasn’t Dheran’s!) nevertheless, it’s still a great outcome.
Another fun day in the workshop.
Will be available online today.

Mim Cole (right) is a Larrakia artist who has been creating art since a teenager. She was born and grew up in Darwin. In a recent collaboration with Flying Fox Fabrics we’ve printed her designs on canvas in Melbourne (Australian made!!) and made a small range of bags. Mim is an established presence through @mimmimdesign but … she did her very first market stall at @puliima conference and met Susie from the APY Lands. Susie loves her new Nancy bag showing Top End Bush flowers.

When it comes to colours, Kieren takes no prisoners. This is our second attempt at Baby Baskets (3 screens) in our onsite @merrepenarts workshop. Kenneth was a great co-printer, Nola worked the heat gun and hairdryer. We’re a class act.
This will go in the heat setting oven and available next week.
Meanwhile there are 40 different hand screen printed fabrics in the Merrepen Arts online store. Merrepenarts.com.au
