Stingrays by @graciekumbi graced the print table at @merrepenarts today. It was the last print of the day and got squeezed in. One of the fun things about being in a teeny, tiny fabric printing workshop is getting to play with colour and fabric on the spot. Using up small pieces gives us the opportunity to see how the same ink colours work on different base cloth colours. A nondescript remnant of fabric suddenly becomes magical. Next week - 27 & 28 June - Merrepen Arts will be in Darwin for a pop-up with @injalakarts at 55 Stuart Highway. Tell your fabric loving friends!!!

It took a while to find the right Chris messenger bag for Philip. In the end it was @bulabulaarts that won!! This design is much loved - Bottles by Robyn Djunginj from Ramingining (not Merrepen Arts!) and looks great in so many products 😍
Philip is a Virgo and loves all the handy front pockets (under the flap) for keeping things in order .. he actually has two Chris bags already, sourced over the years, so knew exactly which bag style - it was just the fabric design that was the big decision. ...

Nola, the artist, gave her official approval on the results of this yams print. Delicious deep chocolate coloured linen with a simple one-colour coffee ink on top. Whilst waiting for the fabric order we were able to top up with some Spotlight pure linens. Having fun printing with @kieren_karritpul and team at @merrepenarts checking the viability of on-site screens. Getting ready for POP-UP next week in Darwin. 27 & 28 June at the former @songlines_arts

Cecilia was looking for a special bag - and found one!! Her heritage is Larrakia and Coburg Peninsula mob and she was very happy to find a design with Arnhem Land vibes. This hand printed fabric design was created from a painting by Robyn Djunginy of her woven bottles at @bulabulaarts and looks fantastic in a Nancy bag.

These fanny packs were quite the labour of love – one of those projects that feels like stitching together a gazillion tiny little puzzle pieces.

From cutting the fabric just right to lining everything up perfectly, it’s been a slow and careful process… but seeing them finished makes it all so worth it 💛

Dry season frenzy. Behind the scenes with @flyingfoxfabrics . The full shipment has now arrived from Kravan House - 11 boxes in total! Time to finish unpacking and work out which bits of the order are here. There’s a lot of fabulous stuff (counting it all!!) in those 📦📦📦 and now’s the time to get it in front of people. We’re seeing lots of visitors around the Top End enjoying the balmy weather. 🌴

We’ve made a bunch of bags for @bulabulaarts in Ramingining, Central Arnhemland from the fabric printed in the community in February this year and it’s arrived in perfect time. Ramo is only now open to tourists after late rains. Plus bags, wallets and purses lots of other amazing art centre fabrics and a few lovely licensed prints including some from mother/daughter combo @mimmimdesign and @danella.lee.90

Kenneth was brushing up his screen printing skills under the careful supervision of Kieren at @merrepenarts today. This fabulous colour combo was Kieren’s - pink and orange(!!) lily pads on emerald green linen designed by Louise Pandella. It’s such a pleasure to print this design - the registration is very forgiving. Dwight Yoakum helped with the vibes.🎶

Ethical Unboxing on a lovely Darwin morning! 📦 My favorite part of @flyingfoxfabrics (apart from meeting you wonderful people) is diving into the boxes from our partner organisations when they arrive 😍💃🏾.. We are small scale, working with disability social enterprises in Cambodia and the turn around times are long … and very worth the wait!!

Bruno from Ceduna/Eucla in South Australia was visiting Darwin for the AIATSIS Summit 2025 held this week and came past @mindilmarket tonight. He found this wonderful Jules satchel in fabric designed by Philip Gudthaykudthay from @bulabulaarts in Ramingining, Central Arnhem Land. He loved the print and was even happier happy to learn that the old man also acted as the Sorcerer in 10 Canoes.
