Another screen pulled out of mothballs at @merrepenarts . It’s a different Crocodile Skin design by @azzamc15 and what a beauty!! Feel like a kid in a candy store. 🍭
Always so happy to find a screen in excellent printable condition. 🤩

A beautiful bunch of Nancy bags on display at our @mindilmarket stall on Sunday night - featuring so many different hand-printed fabrics, nearly all from Northern Territory remote community art centres with a couple of special exceptions. Right in the middle is Mark Cawood’s Magnolia print from @pubtextiles (we think it’s a stunner!) and right behind that is Wattle Flowers, a digital print by Larrakia artist @danella.lee.90

Last week at @mindilmarket Chris and her friend came by and both treated themselves to Delia bags. This week she wore it, told me they both loved their new bags, and was browsing again. The design is Lorrkon (Hollow Log) by Susan Marrawarr from @babbarradesigns in Maningrida. It has just come in from @womenforwomencambodia
Happily she found a very sweet Imogen bag in handprinted fabric design by Mark Cawood of @pubtextiles - sorry, no photo.

There’s been so much interest in Betty and Pauline’s weaving demonstration at @mindilmarket in Darwin. They’re showing the traditional twining technique used for mats and dilly bag. A tradition thousands of years old. It’s our first outing together here. Sitting under a massive mango tree, we’re enjoying the squealing sounds and pungent aromas of the flying foxes above us. Very appropriate.

Still testing screens at @merrepenarts . This stunner is by @kieren_karritpul (also printer) and happily both screens were in good condition. Nola is not keen to print but is very keen to assist with the flow and drying the edges with a heat gun during the alternate prints helps minimise ghosting - when remnant ink is carried underneath the screen and muddies the print. It was a fantastic team effort! This is such a strong design and ideal for art/architectural panels.

Not just blues are being printed at @merrepenarts today! Tested out @kieren_karritpul ‘s String Bags print - this is the first screen on cotton. It looked so good we decided to print it as a single screen. Gorgeous 🤩

Another day at @merrepenarts - another amazing print! Gracie Kumbi’s Stingray design. Printed with @kieren_karritpul and Nola. Have not seen this one printed very often and very happy to discover the screen is in great condition. It does have another screen that can be used with lots more background detail, but today we went for simplicity and clean lines. It’s in the heat setting oven cooking overnight.

Collaborations make the world go round 🌏 When I was in Ramingining at @bulabulaarts in March we printed some wonderful lengths, including new designs. As we placed the two different pinks on the table (half and half) then printed and offset printed them both with Serena’s butterflies I wondered what might be made, hopefully using both. After I left @blackcatcouturent rocked up and started playing with them. The frocks shown here are examples of her magic 🤩 can’t wait to see the Country to Couture collection(s) for 2025.

Two very talented brothers at @merrepenarts in Nauiyu (Daly River). Kieren chose the fabric and colours for print and Aaron (the artist/designer) dropped in on his lunch break and was grabbed for a picture. The iconic design is Crocodile Skin and it’s a two screen design. So good to be supporting the resumption of hand printing on country. Now let’s hope the heat setting oven works 🤞

This is a lovely single screen design with lots of detail. It’s been such a joy supporting the team in getting on-country printing happening again.

For our first (test) run Kieren chose to print his brother Aaron’s Crocodile Skin design (a classic!) for an order. One screen needed a bit of love and repair but it worked!! Thanks guys 🙏
