These incredible ‘rugs’ are made and remade for Lent. This one is in a church in Antigua. The imagery is dyed sawdust and the themes are Mayan. A superb example of syncretism. They were formerly made in the streets for whole blocks just prior to the Friday of Easter, then destroyed by the procession(s) of people carrying Jesus, Mary Guadelupe and other icons.

Flying Fox Fabrics is in Guatemala. I’m seeing A LOT of textiles. So many I’ve been barely taking photos because so many are amazing - in the true sense of that overused word. I actually didn’t come here for the textiles (true story) … but now I’m here better get my eyes around the banquet of colours, textures, techniques and shapes.

Know My Name: Kee, Jackson and Delaunay 👗🎨

Two of Australia’s leading fashion designers—Linda Jackson and Jenny Kee—in conversation with international, multidisciplinary artist Sonia Delaunay (1885–1979).

On display from today | Gallery 8 | Free

The iconic and vibrant early designs of Kee and Jackson from the 1970s and early 1980s were directly inspired by the dynamic legacy of Delaunay, a member of the School of Paris and co-founder of Orphism—an art movement noted for its use of intense colours and abstract, geometric forms. As well as working in traditional mediums such as painting and printmaking, Delaunay’s practice also embraced textile, fashion and theatre design.

For Jackson and Kee, who were just beginning their shared journey in creating clothes as works of art, discovering Delaunay was revolutionary. This powerful display features a rarely seen collection of Kee and Jackson’s garments from their archives, shown alongside the National Gallery’s collection of Delaunay’s prints, drawings, textiles and costumes.

Know My Name: Kee, Jackson and Delaunay is part of the National Gallery’s Know My Name initiative, celebrating the work of all women artists and enhancing understanding of their contribution to Australia’s cultural life.

Great to see these wonderful fabrics featured in the window display of the newly opened Midpul Gallery in the recently completed CDU building in Darwin’s CBD. Congrats to Anindilyakwa mob and Anna.

The opening of the new Charles Darwin University city campus art gallery last night saw the renaming of the space to honour Larrakia elder Midpul - with his granddaughter Helen Secretary and family as honoured guests.

The Midpul gallery has exhibition From the ground up representing so many artists and works held in the CDu art collection.

I was really happy to see the textile and fashion work I was part of at @anindilyakwa_arts in the foyer vitrine so beautifully presented. Congratulations to all artists involved,,, Eylandt fashion mavericks

Also on at the moment is an exhibition Radical Textiles at Art Gallery South Australia in Adelaide #radicaltextiles @agsa.adelaide that features the dress made from the crab and ghost net print on linen that is shown at Midpul gallery by Annabel Amagula.
