@flyingfoxfabrics partners with 4 organisations employing dozens of disadvantaged and vulnerable people in Cambodia, mainly disabled women, to make our products. I (Felicity Wright) spent 2 years as a professional volunteer (Business Management Advisor) under the @ausvols program in Phnom Penh and scoped out the #fairtrade #handicrafts scene. This was after 25 years being a remote community Indigenous art centres specialist.

We are working with the best in the country.

Such a great royalties explainer from Better World

Such a great royalties explainer from Better World Arts. Plus a great pic of the clever and talented Olivia Wilson. We are thrilled to partner with this unique South Australian social enterprise. BWA has been paying royalties to Aboriginal artists and livelihoods to artisans for more than 20 years. They are Fair Trade accredited.

I personally/professionally know dozens of the artists who have licensed designs with BWA - from Arnhem Land to Yuendumu, Uluru, Kaltjiti, Papulankutja (WA), to the Coorong (SA) - and they love the products and the passive income. Makes them proud too.

Better Workd Arts started collaborating with just one art centre, Kaltjiti Arts, then expanded to work with many more art centres and artists. Their wool kilim cushion covers and rug/wallhangings are a favorite with our customers and we now stock a huge range in our Etsy shop (link in bio).

The Mandjabu (fish traps) design from Injalak Arts

The Mandjabu (fish traps) design from Injalak Arts cleverly placed in a dress with strategic cutting out. A challenge (the length having an end where the offset print didn’t happen) turned into a feature. Well done Jennifer @purpleaspidistralives !! 👏👏

This design was created a few years back by Sylvia Badari, Lynne Nadjowh, Katra Nganjmirra and Priscilla Badari with the support of fabric designer/trainer/artist Jude @judewhiteart It’s become a bestseller whether printed singly, offset or shadowed. Injalak Aets is is West Arnhem Land and home to around 1,500 Kunwinjku speaking Aboriginal people.

It’s so versatile - shared it when used in a lampshade a few posts ago.

My verandah doubled as stock receival depot when 5 boxes of bags and purses made from @ikuntjiartists #handprintedfabric landed. Two #fairtrade partners in Cambodia have been doing their magic, @villageworks_kcc and @womenforwomencambodia . Both were established more than a decade ago to train, support and employ women, specifically disabled women. The quality of work is extraordinary. Nearly all of these goodies are bound for Haasts Bluff in Central Australia on Monday. The vast majority are in fabric designs/colours that haven’t been made into bags before (and some never printed before!) - so opening them up is always such a wondrous thing 🥰
The ladies of Ikuntji Artists adore these bags - one has bought 10!!

A small number of these items will find their way into my Etsy shop - but there’s a lot of photography to be done first 😁

It is a joy to work cross-culturally - bringing together the artistry of Indigenous Australians (with fabrics hand printed in Australia) with the skills of artisans in Cambodia.

We have been working with Merrepen for almost 10 years and they have some of the most beautiful and unique multi designs around, their knack for separating 5 colour prints by hand will never cease to floor me. The hand painted drafts we use to shoot the screens are incredible things to see! Ever since we started making clothing I have been lusting after an outfit made in Christina Yambeing’s billabong design, shown above and now I get to make my dream come true!!
